This game has such potential and is quite fun when it is working, but the problems are so huge and game breaking it ruins any fun you could possible have. All of these glitches are multiplied 10 fold in the DLC, I got some DLC with the game when I bought it and it is unplayable. And again, from all them reviews and forums I have read, I am far from the only person having these issues. It is so frustrating when you have been playing a mission for an hour just to have the game crash and have to start all over again.

With this being a train simulator the levels can be long, like multiple hours long. One second you are driving along and all of a sudden the window just closes and you get an error message from Unreal Engine. Sometimes, and quite often in the DLC, the game will just crash for no reason.

Sometimes when you use the in game save feature to save in the middle of a long level, it will make your current objective disappear and the level cannot be completed and you must start from the beginning. They can range from small annoyances, such as the HUD displaying incorrect values for brakes, to game ending, such as objectives not triggering when you complete them. This game would make Bethesda programmers blush with the amount of bugs in it. The second giant problem with this game is the glitches. You have to essentially play this game with a third party guide open if you want your trains to work.

Would it be too hard to add a few more steps to the tutorials that show you how to properly set up the train? And since every engine is slightly different, you are going to run into this problem very often. It gets even worse because sometimes the mission will step you through half the setup and then tell you to drive, so you think everything should work since you followed the game's direction but it won't work. I had to eventually look up a guide that told me how to set up the engines correctly. Turns out there is a whole set of valves and controls in both your engine and the trailing engine that have to be set properly in order for the consist to function. When you do what the tutorial taught you, the engine will not move. You then get to the first level with two of these engines connected and the game tells you to drive. The tutorial teaches you how to operate the reverser, throttle, and brakes of this particular engine, then sends you on your way.

A problem I had early on, and based on forums I am not the only one, was the first real level of the Sand Patch Grade. The game expects you to operate the engines like they would be operated in real life, which is great for a simulator except it doesn't tell you anything about the trains other than the most basic controls.

This game is absolutely horrible about telling you how anything works. I could go on for quite a while but I will only cover the two biggest issues, the lack of tutorials and glitches. The general gameplay is also really fun if this is your sort if thing, once you actually get the trains to function at least. I think overall the graphics are good though (except for DLC but I will get to that). There are a few visual glitches every now and then, sometimes street cars drive into the ground, sometimes railcars will appear blurry for no reason, and sometimes certain textures like water wont load until you are really close. The day an night cycle and different weather really adds a lot to the atmosphere as well. The engines and railcars are beautifully modeled. The attention to detail in the maps is astounding. I really enjoy train simulators and this one has so much potential but it is wasted by the developers greed for a quick buck.
